Merry Mismatch

On my way back to Santa Rosa for the holidays, I stopped by the Alternative Music Foundation over at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley to spend a nostalgic night with local boys The Velvet Teen. It's probably the last show I'll see in California (except maybe Plan 9!) before I zip off to Washington, D.C. to intern for the folks over at All Songs Considered. I'll be writing from the District as much as possible, to keep myself busy and keep you updated on my most recent travels and tribulations. No doubt I'll be barraging you with links, photos, and videos from D.C. and beyond

TVT tore through a well-rounded set Saturday night, full of old favorites as well as five new rock gems. The crowd, who had apparently migrated en masse from Sonoma County, was sweetened up by fellow Santa Rosa crooners Litany For The Whale. Afterwards, Judah Nagler, Casey Dietz (on the beatzz) and J.J. Stapes crushed cochleae with the help of new guitarist Matt Izen, staunch Polar Bear and, like, the only new LRS employee ever. The band has thrown loyal listeners for loops and impressed people with its persistence for almost ten years now. And they're in the studio again, working on eight new tracks that will hopefully see the light of day next year.

It's 40ยบ in the capitol today. Hopefully it will stay that way. I don't think I remember what snow looks like. I need a winter coat.

Other videos I took from that night:
